What level of education am I?
Provide you with basic knowledge and skills, and the ability to do basic tasks with guidance or under supervision. Examples of Level 1 qualifications are GCSE grades 3, 2, 1 or grades D, E, F, G.
Provide you with good knowledge and understanding of a subject, and the ability to do a variety of tasks with some guidance or supervision. Examples of Level 2 qualifications are GCSE grades 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4 or grades A*, A, B, C.
Give you the ability to gain and apply a range of knowledge, skills and understanding at a detailed level. These qualifications are appropriate if you plan to go to university, work independently or potentially supervise and train others in their field of work. Examples of Level 3 qualifications are : A levels, International Baccalaureate diploma, Access to Higher Education diploma.
Equivalent to the first year of university. They provide specialist learning and knowledge in an area of work or study. These qualifications are suitable for people working in technical and professional jobs, and / or managing and developing others. Examples of Level 4 qualifications: Certificate of Higher Education (CertHE), Higher National Certificate (HNC).
Equivalent to the second year of university. They provide depth of knowledge and understanding of an area of work or study, so you can respond to complex problems and situations. These qualifications are suitable for people working as higher-grade technicians, professionals or managers. Examples of Level 5 qualifications: foundation degree (FdSc), Higher National Diploma (HND).
Equivalent to the third year of university. They provide specialist, high-level knowledge of an area of work or study, to allow you to use your own ideas and research in response to complex problems and situations. These qualifications are suitable for people working as knowledge-based professionals or in professional management positions. Examples of Level 6 qualifications: BSc and BA degrees.
Equivalent to the fourth year of university. They provide highly-developed and complex levels of knowledge, enabling you to develop original responses to complicated and unpredictable problems and situations. These qualifications are suitable for senior professionals and managers. Examples of Level 7 qualifications: MSc and MA degrees.
